Rothschildia arethusa is found in tropical and subtropical South America from Colombia and Venezuela south to northern Argentina and Uruguay. A large silkmoth, one of the largest in the genus (the wingspan is 110-150 mm). The wings are long, round-tipped, and red-orange with wide pink margins and large translucent triangular spots. The body is short with a wide white band in the middle. The larvae feed on species in the Amaranthaceae, Bignoniaceae, Clusiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Rosaceae, Rutaceae, and Urticaceae.
